The Jadar Project

In 2004, Rio Tinto geologists discovered Jadarite, a new mineral containing lithium and boron. Jadarite, named after the Jadar River, is located near the city of Loznica in Western Serbia. The Jadar deposit is a world-class resource that could potentially provide the foundation of a new electric vehicle supply chain in Serbia.

Boosting energy efficiency

There is a need to improve energy efficiency in Serbia, which produces approximately 70% of its electricity in coal-fired thermal power plants. For the production of a unit of gross domestic product, four to five times more energy is consumed on average than in the European Union. We launched a project to improve energy efficiency, through which we are supporting 25 households with the purchase and installation of insulation. The goal of this project is to maximise energy savings, while reducing air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and improving living conditions that affect public health. It is estimated that thanks to this project, participating households will achieve an energy saving of 30%.
