The Jadar Project

In 2004, Rio Tinto geologists discovered Jadarite, a new mineral containing lithium and boron. Jadarite, named after the Jadar River, is located near the city of Loznica in Western Serbia. The Jadar deposit is a world-class resource that could potentially provide the foundation of a new electric vehicle supply chain in Serbia.

Soil and groundwater sampling on plots leased by Rio Sava Exploration d.o.o., in cooperation with the Jaroslav Černi Institute, from August 11 to 18, 2025

Engineers and laboratory technicians from the Jaroslav Černi Institute for Water Resources will conduct soil and shallow groundwater sampling at locations leased by Rio Sava between August 11 and 18.

The sampling activities will be carried out exclusively during working hours, in accordance with the applicable laws of the Republic of Serbia and international ISO standards, with strict adherence to environmental protection and occupational safety measures. The engaged accredited laboratory of the Jaroslav Černi Institute for Water Management, based in Belgrade, is an institution with many years of experience in this field.

The planned activities are conducted in full compliance with relevant Serbian laws and regulations, and are based on the water permits issued by the Water Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management.
